Kriya Yoga is an ancient, liberating meditation technique for those ready to take the next step on their spiritual journey. In his spiritual classic, Autobiography of a Yogi, Paramhansa Yogananda writes,

“Kriya is the easiest, most effective, and most scientific avenue of approach to the Infinite. In contrast to the slow, uncertain bullock cart theological path to God, Kriya may justly be called the airplane route.”

Paramhansa Yogananda gave us three other techniques of yoga and meditation as important preparations for Kriya:

  • The Energization Exercises – The Energization Exercises awaken our awareness of energy flow throughout the body and develop our capacity to direct and amplify that energy flow through the agency of focused will power. This series of physical movements paired with conscious breathing, focused attention, and will revitalize and harmonize both the body and mind.
  • The Hong-Sau Concentration Technique – This ancient meditation technique serves as a first step to quieting the restless mind and feelings, and helps us shift our attention to the reservoir of peace and well-being within.
  • The Aum Meditation Technique supports us in discovering an inner world of spiritual qualities that manifest as we go more deeply inward.

Teachers at Berkeley Ananda Center are happy to support those who are interested in learning the preparatory techniques as well as the liberating technique of Kriya Yoga.
